Review: Sunday Brunch at KODE, Kamala Mills

If you’ve read about our previous experience at KODE, you’ll be aware that we are already fans of this wonderful restaurant.

Recently, we stopped by to try their newly introduced Sunday Brunches. With a specially curated menu and as well as a buffet spread, the Sunday Brunch at KODE is priced at Rs.1750 + taxes.

The buffet spread included a range of cold cuts, cheese, sushi, salads, mezze and soups. We started off with the salads, and mezze moving on to the sushi and soup.

There was a menu that had hot food coming to our table straight from the kitchen. From the menu we ordered for the Turkish Flatbread with Meatballs – quite an interesting twist to the regular flatbread, came in the shape of a boat. The Shrimp Crostini, Shrimp tossed in a mustard sauce served on toasted bread, Potato Bravas – this was more like baby potatoes tossed in a tomato based sauce. The Buffalo Wings with a Blue Cheese Dip and the Herb Roast Chicken with Rosemary Potatoes and Jus, both were impressive. Well cooked and flavourful, a delight for non vegetarians. The star dish of the afternoon was the Lamb Shank with Red Wine Au Jus – melted in our mouths and was extremely succulent, a must try.

For drinks, we ordered theForgotten petal sour – Campari soap, with champagne foam, rose petals dipped in nitrogen, drink garnished with beetroot powder – absolutely loved the presentation. The Bird Eye, a vodka based drink, was served in a fish bowl and placed on a bird’s nest also looked spectacular. The drama that accompanied the drinks made it all worth it!

The dessert spread included Cheesecake, Creme Brule, Tiramisu, Chocolate Mud Pie, Chocolate Eclair, Blue Berry Yogurt and Caramel Ice Cream. While desserts are always great, are favourites were the Tiramisu and the Mud pie with Caramel Ice Cream.

Overall, if you’re planning to spend the weekend indulging in some good food, KODE should definitely be your pick!

Review : KODE, Kamala Mills

Welcoming the newly opened KODE – Freestyle Bar and Kitchen, by restaurateur Zorawal Kalra, another one added to the list of awesome restaurants in Lower Parel. KODE offers a variety of cocktails and drinks presented in the most innovative and exquisite way. Not only that, it has the largest selections of whiskey in India. The food menu includes sushi, grills, pizzas and other European dishes. As we entered, we couldn’t stop admiring the bar and how spacious and well decorated the restaurant was. It looked perfect for a formal dinner or for a good meal with your friends.

To begin with, the Togarshi & Garlic Olives Chives Crème Fraiche is a dish perfect for the ones with a liking for bitter palate. The crème fraiche balances the bitterness of the olives making it pleasant to the taste buds.

We then tried The Old Fashioned Cocktail which is saturated with  Angostura bitters, a Sugar cube mixed with whiskey, garnished with an orange slice along with a Maraschino cherry.  The cocktail was served in a fancy metal like container giving a feel of its origination back to the 19th Century. The B vs B cocktail is a perfect blend of Benedictine liqueur and Brandy. Served elegantly this one won us over!

The Old Fashioned Cocktail

Our next dish was Herb Crusted Scotch Eggsbaby Greens which was my personal favorite dish. Not only did the dish look so beautiful, it lived up to its taste expectations. One cannot visit KODE & not try out these scotch eggs. The  Avocado Carpaccio definitely worth a try for all you Avocado lovers out there. We then moved on to the Garlic & Pepper lamb Chops potato Wasabi Cream. The chops were well cooked and the combination of the lamb and wasabi cream was heavenly. Who doesn’t love a classic Mexican dish? Charred Chicken & Jalapeno Quesadillas Jerk sauce was a one of its kind. Seasonal Greens & Fungs Ramen Coconut Broth is a portion of noodles with fresh green vegetables adding sweetness using coconut broth. 18 hours cooked Lamb Shanks Blue Cheese Truffles was literally the best lamb we’ve ever eaten. Tender and juicy, the blue cheese truly was relishing.  Potato Gnocchi Roasted Pumpkin Crispy Sage & Parme was the best vegetarian dish. Soft and delicious, this was awesome.

Tiramisu

After such a hearty round of dishes, the desserts topped it all. Tiramisu was beautifully plated, soft, with the right amount of cocoa.

Overall, KODE lives up to the expectations of good food and a lovely atmosphere. Enjoy your meals in the best way, Dine-in today!

Review: Pa Pa Ya

Massive restaurants throws in another innovative bomb! Pa Pa Ya opens its doors at Palladium Mall, Mumbai.

After Masala library and Made In Punjab, one thing that you expect from the Kalras, is fancy presentations and an off beat menu. That’s exactly what Pa Pa Ya is all about. The makers call it a High Energy Dining – Modern Asian Bistro. On the launch night, that we were invited to, the energy was definitely high, the music was peppy and the ambiance was vibrant, just how we like it.

As you enter the space, you can’t help but notice the in-your-face, 3D mapping installations all over the place with lazer projectors creating a mini light show on them. A long bar on the left and a couple of tables in the rest of the space, give the place a rather casual vibe as opposed to the other properties under this umbrella which tilt more to the finer dining.

Coming to the food and drinks, we tried mostly the appetisers. The sushi tower called the Sushi Matrix looked breathtaking and the non vegetarian ones were delicious. The vegetarians didn’t look quite happy with their share though. The dehydrated crispy lotus stem is a must try here. Crispy, tangy and delicious!

They also have tacos on the menu. How are they Asian? Well, the filling has an Asian twist to it, which are again quite tasty. The Tuna Pizza is another great dish on their menu! Makes for a great munchy to go with your drink.

The cocktails are their highlight! Whether it’s the Lighthouse – served in a lightbulb (yes, you read that right), the Tokyo Summer -Wasabi infused cocktail with Vodka and Gari or the Wise Whiskey – a superb concoction topped with rosemary foam; everything was top notch!

Overall, Pa Pa Ya is a great option for all those pre gaming nights or for a fun time with your girlfriends. We are definitely making a second trip here to try out their desserts and mains! And some more cocktails of course.
