Review: Out Of The Blue, Bandra gets a makeover

When we heard that the decade old, Out of the blue, Bandra is changing management, we were both nervous and excited.

The interiors of the place are changed completely, so has the menu. From a cozy, romantic diner, Out of the blue is now a casual, brightly lit restaurant. A wine cellar on one side and tables spread throughout the outside section, dare we say that the canopy style seating was highly missed.

The menu had sizzlers but they were not available and we hear that they will no longer be available at Out Of The Blue (noooo!). We decided to try out some of the new starters, the Bravia Potatoes topped with smoked sofrito and garlic saffron aioli and the Asian Spring Veggies Bao with sesame seeds, crushed peanuts and lettuce. The Bravia Potatoes were good, we loved the saffron aioli that they were topped with. The Bao however, was bland and no dipping sauce was served with it.

For mains, since sizzlers were not available, we settled for the pizzas and pastas. We tried the Bianco and the Harissa Roasted Pulled Chicken Pizza. No choice of crusts were offered, again, a disappointment. Taste wise, both the pizzas were quite average. The pastas on the contrary were spectacular. The Gnocchi, the Aglio Olio and the Arrabiata Spaghetti.

Coming to the desserts, we tried the Baked Philly Cheesecake and the Kahlua and Baileys Mousse. Again, the desserts were great, cheesecake was smooth, consistent and not grainy. The mousse had a strong flavour of Baileys and that’s why we loved it.

Overall, this new face of Out Of The Blue had some hits and some misses. With a little bit of polishing, we think they might be able to shine as bright as the old one.

P.S. Please bring back the sizzlers or we will be heartbroken!

Review: Poetry by Love & Cheesecake

Everytime there’s a new cafe in the city, we are the first ones to drop by and try it. It was no different with Poetry, a newly opened cafe by the guys behind dessert chain, Love & Cheesecake.

IMG_5308

We went there on a rainy weekday evening and we were delighted with the cute little space with an abstract feel to it, justifies the name, Poetry. One side of the cafe had an enticing line up of desserts while the other side had a few tables to accomodate the customers.

Nutellla Layered Cheesecake
Nutellla Layered Cheesecake

We started with trying the Hot Chocolate. Extremely fascinating, the Nutella Hot Chocolate was. A chocolate ball in an empty glass and milk is poured over, these little gimmicks, we love ’em! The Hot Chocolate was not very dense and a good portion for one! We also tried the Nutella Layered Cheesecake and it was no surprise that we love it!

The interested part was that they give you the bill inside a book, a poetry book! How thoughtful! This one we’re sure is here to stay and is an absolute delight to visit.

Ming Yang is back!

IMG_6169IMG_6159 IMG_6196Happy news for all the Ming Yang fans! Your favourite chinese restaurant is back in the city! This time, it’s bigger and better.

Black and grey stone walls, bronze armour tiles, cloud chandeliers and a huge silver dragon that sits right in the center of the restaurant, every element here has a story to tell.

We were invited for a preview and as we were seated, the first thing that arrived on our table was a cup of tea called the Secret Seven, made of seven secret ingredients! What’s inside, no one knows.

The food, without a doubt, was top notch. Be it the dismiss, appetisers or the main course, everything was delicious. Our favourites on the menu were the Prawn Cheung Fun, Ming Yang Chicken, the Steamed Chilean Sea Bass with pickled chilli and the Celery and lotus stem in white wine sauce. In the desserts, we loved the Rice Pudding and the Origin Chocolate Mousse with Five Spiced Caramelised Popcorn.

Another thing that caught our fancy were these infused ice cubes which we are definitely going to try at home!

Ming Yang, thank you for being back! You have been missed 🙂

Review: Amaya

The recently opened Amaya Indian Grill and Kitchen is located on
the ground floor of Phoenix MarketCity, Kurla and is a part of Bellona hospitality.

IMG_2545
As we entered Amaya we were dazzled by the beautiful ambience of the place. We were served a glass of Chaas to beat the heat which had a dash of ginger, coriander, green chillies and freshly roasted cumin in the adequate proportion, absolutely refreshing.

This was followed by in numerous rounds of starters. The Bharwan Aloo which was marinated Kashmiri style, a dish we enjoyed! The Kaju Methi Roll was appealing to the eye but it just had too many Cashews which overpowered the taste of Methi. The Lamb Galifa Seekh Kebab and the Kalmi Kebab were melt-in-the-mouth delicious.

The Lehsooni Jheenga was disappointing as the prawns were not clean and we could not eat it. We’d definitely give it a miss on our next visit.

IMG_2562
In the main course, try the Bhatti ka Murgh Masala, the Kadhai Paneer in creamy tomato gravy and the Padhai Lehsooni Palakalongwith their signature, Kache murgh ki bhuni bhiryani.

IMG_2567
A lunch cannot be complete without dessert. We tried the Baked Gulab Jamun with rabdi gaze, Rasmalai and Kolkata’s Meetha Paan ice cream. The Ice Cream stole the show and we definitely saved the best for the last.

Overall, Amaya is a great option for North Indian cuisine lovers as it serves some delicious options. We are definitely coming back here.

Holi Special: Haagen Dazs introduces Falooda Sorbets

Falooda with sorbets, what do you think? Hard to imagine?

Falooda Sorbets

Haagen Dazs has introduced Falooda Sorbets for the Holi week.

The international chain has tried to offer the Indian taste buds, a local flavour, but they have replaced the traditional kulfis with sorbet and rabdi with milkmaid.

IMG_1519 IMG_1523

We tried a couple of options but our favourite was the tangy Orange Falooda Sorbet topped with dried nuts. The appearance, just like the setting sun, this one was an absolutely delight and extremely flavourful!

IMG_1501At Haagen Dazs, you can choose your sorbet from their range and the chef will make it for you with their inhouse prepared flavoured falooda.

PS: We did miss our traditional kulfi though! 🙂

Review: Hoppipola

There’s one more new bar in the city and this one is absolutely delightful!

Hoppipola translates to Jumping in Puddles and there’s also a song made after this phrase. A hidden gem, located in the by lanes of Khar, the location is probably its only con. Because other than that we loved everything about this place.

A huge indoor seating and a adequately big alfresco seating, white and blue interiors, chalk board tables, board games, beer games and amazing cocktails. What is not to love about this place?

Hoppipola is sure to bring out the child in you as it did in us! Try their cocktails, the Watermelon and Basil Caprioshka being our favourite! The food however could get better, some hits and some misses. The Margarita Pizza and the Chicken Skewers were good, all the other bar nibbles had a bit too much salt.

Overall, we have already made three trips to this place in two weeks, so goes without saying that it has made it to our list of favourites!

Review: #CoastToCoast Festival at O22, Trident

salad counter buffetSea food lovers, this one is for you! Trident, Bandra Kurla is hosting a Coastal Food Festival called Coast To Coast at their restaurant O22. An extensive buffet spread with an array of delicacies from various coastal regions across India.

We started our meal with the welcome drink, a refreshing blend of Ginger, Lemon and Honey served in a mini matka. The buffet had a live counter where you could choose your fish and the chef would prepare it for you right then. We tried an assortment of seared fish wrapped in a leaf and prawns. Perfectly cooked and delicately spiced, we were already impressed with the food!

Next we moved on to the buffet spread, there was a Farsan Counter, a Pickle and salad counter with some great variations like the Nilgiri Jhinga Salad, Chicken Pakora Salad, Chettinad Paneer Salad and more. The Amrood ki Chutney and the South Indian Pickle were also worth a try.

In the mains, we absolutely loved the Malabar Lamb Biryani – succulent lamb pieces in a flavourful biryani and the Crab Xacuti – crab cooked in a spicy gravy. There were plenty of choices for vegetarians as well like the Badi Choora – a staple Oriya meal with dried lentils mixed with garlic and chopped veggies.

Coming to the desserts, there was Payesh, Kala Jamun, Ras Malai, Macarons, Panna Cotta and some cakes. The Ras Malai and Macarons with a Truffle were on top of our list followed by the rest.

The Coast To Coast Festival is priced at 1975+Tax per person and the menu is rotational. The same menu gets repeated every 6 days.

Overall, this one is a must try for all the coastal food fans!
